For the purposes of this listing, we define Workplace Consulting as:

  • Using a range of techniques, including engagement with the business and end user, to gather data that will determine an organisation’s requirements for their current or future working environments;
  • Collating and analysing the evidence gathered to inform the development of a more efficient and effective working environment which supports the organisational objectives;
  • Recommending a change in the working environment which may be a strategic or tactical solution that affects a single building or property portfolio;
  • Offering solutions that include implementing flexible (new ways of) working, consolidation and property rationalisation, relocation, and more efficient use of space.
  • A range of services are typically offered by workplace consultants including: workplace strategy, space planning, design briefing, space requirements and space budgets, space and property portfolio analysis and benchmarking, post occupancy evaluation (POE), benefits realisation and cost-benefit analysis, change management, and related research.

Traditionally workplace consultants are born out of a range of disciplines, including design, architecture, surveying, psychology, HR, facilities management or business management, rather than, for example, being associated with a specific degree. Therefore to be included in this register, consultants possess:

  • A degree level qualification and at least 3 years practical experience of workplace consulting, or
  • At least 5 years practical experience of workplace consulting, and
  • Their main role and services are inline with the above definition of workplace consulting.
